Institute of Chemistry Timisoara of the Romanian Academy (ICT) has over 50 years of experience in chemistry and is nowadays organized in three departments: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Computational Chemistry. Fundamental research in chemistry is the main activity but the scientific research has ranging to concrete forms of applied research.

ICT is involved in R&D projects in the field of inorganic and hybrid organic/inorganic compounds with relevance in nanostructured materials science; advanced materials with special optoelectrical properties based on porphyrins; synthesis, applications, structure and reactivity of organic and element-organic compounds of Phosphorus, Nitrogen and Fluorine; synthesis of carbohydrates with biological activity; macromolecular compounds with oriented properties: biopolymers, nanocomposites, conductive polymers, catalysts and polymeric biocides; intrinsic organic conductors of polyaniline type and its composites formulations. Applications in various fields: analytical sensors, modified electrodes for electrocatalysis and biochemistry, electronic devices, energy efficient storage batteries and anticorrosion protection.
